Donald Driver is a 13-year NFL veteran that has caught more passes than any other wide receiver in Green Bay Packers history. Despite his numerous accomplishments on the field, including a Super Bowl ring, Driver has to make room on his mantle for one more trophy. The Mirror Ball Trophy. Along with his partner Peta Murgatroyd, Driver participated in this year’s season of Dancing With the Stars, made it all the way to the Finals and finally captured his elusive perfect score that he was shooting for all season in the final week en route to another championship, this time off the field. Donald Driver joined ESPN Radio with Scott Van Pelt and Ryen Russillo to talk about whether he is more known as a football player or a dancer at this point, how much fun he had on Dancing With the Stars, how much razzing he is going to get in the locker room after going on the show, when he was approached about going on the show, where he will be playing in and how tough it was to lose the game against the Giants in the playoffs last year.
Whether he is more known as a football player or a dancer at this point:
“As a dancer at this point. I think it’s more of the men, they still look at you as the NFL player but I think the women now look at you as ‘hey that’s that guy who was on Dancing With the Stars, he won it.’ Then they say ‘oh yeah that is Donald Driver.’ No one cares about you playing football anymore; they do care about you winning Dancing With the Stars though.”
How much fun he had on Dancing With the Stars:
“It was a lot of fun. If anybody got the opportunity to be on that show you have to do it. Your career goes from just being normal to ridiculous because LA life is truly what they say ‘Hollywood.”
How much razzing he is going to get in the locker room after going on the show:
“I think if I would’ve lost it would’ve went over pretty tough because guys probably would’ve talked about me with the tight pants and shirt off but since I won it I think I have the upper hand on everybody at this point.”
Whether he is going to get razzed in the locker room after going on the show:
“Actually the year we won the Super Bowl, but had the injuries in the Super Bowl so I couldn’t do it and a good friend of mine, Hines (Ward), went out there and took care of business and won it. I got the offer again once again with a good friend of mine that worked it all out and they said here’s the deal and I took the deal. I had to ask the wife to make sure she was comfortable with it. She was and from there I decided to push forward and just follow a dream. I’ve been watching that show since season one. I’ve always made jokes about if I ever got on that show I’d win it and then I get the opportunity to get on there and I wasn’t going to let the opportunity slip away.”
On where he is going to be playing in:
“I will be in Green Bay. I’m not going anywhere. I’ve always said I wanted to retire as a Packer and the organization knows that. We’re going to come together, we’re going to make a decision and then one or two more years and I will put the cleats on the shelf and sit back in Dallas and relax.”
On the loss in the playoffs against the Giants:
“It was tough. You feel you could go back-to-back seasons and then you go out there and do things you haven’t done all season long. We went into that game, haven’t had any mistakes, haven’t had any drops, any turnovers and all those things happened to us all in one day. That cost the game. We just didn’t play our best football the day when we should. When the game was on the line we didn’t step up and play the way we should’ve.”
