Nick Young on the Wizards: “We were on ‘Not Top 10′ every night”

The NBA trade deadline has come and gone, and after a quiet start to last week, there was a flurry of activity prior to Thursday’s deadline. One of the biggest trades was a three-team deal between the Washington Wizards, Denver Nuggets, and the Los Angeles Clippers. Since the injury to Chauncey Billups earlier in the season, the Clippers have been a different team and have struggled to find someone to replace his scoring punch and his three point daggers that he brought to LA. They hope they have found it in newly acquired Nick Young.
Young has been playing for the Wizards since coming into the NBA, and even though he has shown that he can fill up the score column, he also has never met a shot he doesn’t like and takes far too many ill-advised shots trying to get his. Things have gone from bad to worse in Washington this season with guys delivering head-scratching moments repeatedly so maybe a change of scenery is exactly what Young needed. The former USC Trojan is going back home to play with the Clippers and judging by this interview and his comments he couldn’t be happier about it and LA might finally get the scoring boost that has been missing since early February.
Nick Young joined Fox Sports Radio with Petros and Money to talk about how he found out about getting traded and how crazy things have been since the deal was completed, what was going on in Washington this season, what his role will be in Los Angeles, how many shots he expects to get per night, and what he knows about the current Clippers.
How he found out about getting traded and how crazy things have been since the deal:
“It’s been crazy. I actually found out from my parents first I think. My mom called me screaming and said it went through and everything. It’s been wild you know?”
What was going on in Washington this season:
“I don’t know. We had a curse on us for some reason. We were on Not Top 10 every night. Every night it was something and we couldn’t break the habit. They drafted me and I’m going to miss those guys on the team.”
What his role will be in Los Angeles and how many shots he expects to get:
“(Laughing) There’s not enough balls out there but I’m just going to come in and play my game, try to make the team better the best I can, play defense, and I’m a shooter, I’m a scorer so I’m going to do my thing.”
Whether he was a Lakers fan or Clippers fan:
“I was both. (Host: Nobody is both.) I was a big Ron Harper fan growing up.”
On his new teammates:
“I played with Caron (Butler), Randy Foye, and we play together a lot during the summer so I know Chauncey and a couple of those guys here. I’ve been in the league for five years now so I’ve run into most of them.”
