Just last week , Sports Radio Interviews posted an interview with Washington Redskins CB DeAngelo Hall that featured his thoughts on his short and acrimonious tenure with the Oakland Raiders last year before being released and acquired by the ‘Skins. Hall’s latest comments on the radio touched upon of former Virginia Tech teammate Michael Vick and his recent release from prison to begin his home-confinement period. Vick joined ESPN Radio Washington D.C. to share his thoughts about whether or not Vick deserves another shot at playing in the National Football League.
His thoughts on the Michael Vick situation as it stands now:
“It’s a situation where society is what it is. Obviously people have done a lot of things that are a lot worse than what Mike did but with society being what it is, he definitely had to pay the price. I think he’s done that, he’s definitely remorseful, he’s very sincere about the things he wants to do in the future to help bring awareness to dog fighting and help try to combat that. But I definitely think he deserves another chance to play in this league. I definitely think he can play. There’s a lot of quarterbacks that have jobs that don’t want to see him back in the league because they know that any time you have teams in divisions drafting players just to stop Michael Vick, that’s when you know the guy’s a game changer and help you win a lot of games.”
On whether or not it’s fair to ask Vick to prove his remorse without allowing him to be back in the public spotlight:
“I feel like he’s got to be on that stage, have that spotlight on him, to see if he can do the things they’re asking him to do. They can’t ask him to do these things behind closed doors and then nobody’s able to see it or be able to reach the same amount of people he could. So, he’s definitely been humiliated. I think he should have just been suspended, play, then he should have had to pay a big fine. You know, that’s what PETA wants anyway is money. So he should have had to pay them money. But for them to do what they did – totally humiliate him like you said, take away his lifeline, strip everything from him, then ask him hey you still have to show us something else, it’s like hey I’ve already done everything you asked me to do, what more do you want.”
On where he thinks Michael Vick might best be situated to try to resurrect his career:
“I think a perfect situation would be a place like San Francisco. You’ve got a guy like Mike Singletary who’s known to motivate players, known to kind of get guys to just see the light. I think that would be a great situation for Mike. I know Mike Singletary would love to have him out there, so I think that’s a great situation and I think he can definitely flourish in that scheme.”
