Tennessee Titans Training Camp Kenny Britt Nfl Matt Hasselbeck Jake Locker

Kenny Britt Is Working On A New Clean Slate This Season, Projects Optimism In Titans New Playbook That Is More “Open”

Kenny Britt had his fair share of off-the-field troubles during the lockout. Britt was first charged with theft-by-deception, a misdemeanor, back in February. The former first-round pick in 2009 then was arrested in New Jersey on multiple charges after a car chase with police. He was charged with eluding an officer, lying to an officer, hindering apprehension and obstructing governmental function. As the dust has settled with the lockout ending and training camp gearing up in the dog days of August, Britt looks to put his past behind him and start with a clean slate.
A hamstring injury caused Britt to miss four games last season, but he feels the injury is fully healed as he is taking it one step at a time in training camp. He also discusses in the following interview with WGFX that the Tennessee Titans playbook is more ‘open’ this season under Mike Munchak. It’s hard to tell if Britt is behind Matt Hasselbeck or Jake Locker at this point in training camp, but you get the sense that he’s happy with whoever takes the snap under center this season.

Kenny Britt joined WGFX in Nashville with The Three Hour Lunch to discuss how his hamstring feels at this point in training camp, learning from the past and putting his off-the-field troubles behind him, the new coaching staff and offensive scheme he is working under this season, bringing his game to an elite level this season and his early impressions of Matt Hasselbeck and Jake Locker.
It’s been a wild off-season with the hamstring injury. It’s good to see you back out on the field. How do you feel?
“It feels good being back on the field to just be out there with my teammates and having fun and enjoying the things we like to do. We are ready to get this season started and it’s been a long off-season and hey we are ready to start this season.”
Have you learned from the past now and put it in the rear view mirror and try to learn from it and whatever happens will happen?
“The past is the past. I learned from it. The only thing I can do is move on and move forward from here like a clean slate and all I can do is step in the building and try to make a better future for them.”
With the new coaching staff tell us about the differences in this offensive scheme and style?
“Our playbook opened so much just giving us a variety of routes to run and choices that we can run especially on coverages. I got a choice of doing so many things and just not be hooked on one route and one play. You see a play you go out there and the play is not drawn up for that coverage and then you are stuck on that one route and that really hurts your offense and now we got so many things we can do and everybody can just open up and just play ball.”
Are you looking for that breakout season to get into that next level of elite receivers?
“Oh yeah I definitely am, but right now I’m just worried about the team and worried about what we can do because our goal right now is to get to that [Super] Bowl and bring it back home to Nashville. I know the fans have been waiting a long time and we only been in it one time and right now we are just trying to bring it back.”
What do you see from the quarterbacks in Matt Hasselbeck and Jake Locker?
“We got two great quarterbacks coming in right now. Two different style quarterbacks. One that likes to sit in the pocket and throw the ball. He’s got a great arm, which is Matt Hasselbeck and we got [Jake] Locker who is just running around and throwing the ball off his back foot and making great passes. That’s something you want out of a quarterback.”
