Shaq: I Expect To Be In The Finals

If Shaq is on last year’s Cavs team – and, if he brought his health along with him – Cleveland is in the NBA Finals.  That being said, did Danny Ferry acquire the Suns’ conditioning staff in that trade?  The Big Quotacious, or whatever he’s calling himself these days, went retro with his numbers and health last season.  Although, he sat out one end of back-to-back games on several occasions, he was basically in good condition all year.  That remains a big question for this year’s Cavs team – that was his best / healthiest year in a long time – can he duplicate it?  Shaq joined The Dan Patrick Show to discuss Ron Artest to the Lakers, the future of Courtney Lee, his expectations for next season, and his 67,000 square foot home.

On Artest going to the Lakers:

“Good move, it’s just tougher in the backcourt defensively.  They’ll always be a good team but that just makes them a whole lot better, a whole lot tougher.  A lot of people have come up to me this summer and said, ‘I’m very excited for this year to start up.  I haven’t been more excited for the season to start up than this one.’  It’s going to be a good season.  A lot of impressive moves.”

Does he expect to be in the NBA finals?

“I don’t want to count my chickens before they hatch, but yeah.  Actually, every time I step onto the court I expect for that to be the outcome.  Talk about it too much, just go and get it done and see where it takes us.”

On the free agent moves this offseason:

“The only move that really, really shocked me was when Orlando got rid of Courtney Lee.  That dude is going to be a star, I’m telling you right now… They’ve done in an excellent job building that team but Courtney Lee, that’s a star brother.  Star, star, star.”
