Robert Griffin Iii Rgiii Nfl Draft Washington Redskins

RGIII: “I expect greatness out of myself so yeah I expect to be the starting quarterback.”
April 24, 2012 – 11:00 am by Chris Fedor
With the NFL Draft now just two days away, much of the intrigue has been taken away, at least with the first two picks of the draft. Andrew Luck is going number one to the Colts and Washington made a blockbuster deal over a month ago to land the number two pick and the chance to draft Robert Griffin III. Of course, this is also the time of year where you start to read rumors or hear things about players in the draft for a variety of reasons. And surprise, surprise, just recently an anonymous scout came out and talked about RG3’s attitude, even going as far as to say he’s selfish. He has nothing to worry about though prior to the draft and this won’t affect his stock at all. The reigning Heisman Trophy winner is going to Washington to solidify one of the shakiest quarterback situations in the NFL and it will be up to him to let his play do the talking and reward the Redskins for falling in love with him this offseason.

Robert Griffin III joined The Dan Patrick Show to talk about how this process has been for him, what he has found out about the report stating he was a selfish player, how things will change with him being the second overall pick and now be famous, whether he thinks there was ever any chance of being the first overall pick, and if he looks forward to playing against the Colts.
How this process has been for him:
“I’m having a lot of fun. You want to live in the moment and not let the moment live you and that’s kind of how I’m taking this whole process so I’m not going to get burnt out, I will have fun, know that this is a once in a lifetime experience and go from there.”
What he has found out about the report alleging that he was a selfish player:
“No I haven’t found out anything. It’s kind of one of those things where it’s hard to fight with words because everybody has words, everybody has opinions. You just have to do it with your actions. People that know me know who I am and I don’t know how many nice football players there are on the field or anything like that. (Host: Is being a selfish football player bad?) I have no idea. It’s just a word that kind of throws me off and everybody off. You can be determined, you can be a focused football player but when they say you’re a selfish football player it’s kind of iffy. I never want to consider myself or look at myself as a selfish guy.”
How things will change with him being the second overall pick:
“People say money and fame change people but it’s not that they change people it’s how people have to adapt to that new lifestyle. Yes I’m a household name now and the number two pick in the draft but I can’t let that change me, I can’t let my lifestyle change who I am and the fundamentals of what makes me me. You have to have help and rely on your inner circle to kind of keep you grounded. My parents, my fiancée and my friends around me have been able to do that. It hasn’t been a problem to make sure I stay who I am.”
If he thinks he will be the starting QB in Washington week one:
“I would love to. I would love to be the starting quarterback of the Washington Redskins week one. (Host: Do you expect to?) I expect greatness out of myself and I expect greatness out of my team so yeah I expect to be the starting quarterback.”
Whether he believes he was actually in consideration by the Colts for the number one pick:
“I like to believe that there was. Maybe they never had a plan to draft me in the first place but I kept my eyes open and I didn’t want to shut anything out. You keep the world as big as you possibly can so that when it does narrow down you can give it your all to that one person, one team, one organization, or fanbase that truly believes in you and it looks like that is Washington.”
If he would like to play the Colts:
“It’s no personal vendetta against anyone. They thought the other guy was the better fit for them so I have to respect that and I do respect that. I’m just glad that there’s a team that wants me for who I am.”
