Buster Posey: “We were a tight-nit group and had some quirky ways of getting fired up but we’re also really good”

Davidson takes on Richmond in A10 men's basketball action at Belk Arena on Saturday, January 19, 2019 in Davidson, North Carolina.

For Buster Posey, last year had to be agonizing watching his team miss the playoffs as he was recovering from a broken leg. This year he gets to spend the offseason celebrating his second World Series title in the last three years. At times it looked like the San Francisco Giants were out of it, like they didn’t have enough to be champs again but they overcame every obstacle put in their way, came up with timely hits and put together one of the most dominant World Series performances in recent memory by sweeping the Detroit Tigers and completely shutting down one of the most potent offenses in the game. Buster Posey joined KNBR in San Francisco with Murph and Mac to talk about winning his second World Series, what moment he will remember the most from last night’s World Series clinching win, on the final pitch by Sergio Romo to get Miguel Cabrera out, what he saw on his home run and if he thinks Hunter Pence’s speeches and pregame dances got the team fired up.

On winning his second World Series:

“Feel good. I think we’re a little tired and it hasn’t quite sunk in for us yet but we’re all really excited to get back to San Fran and celebrate with all the fans.”

What moment he will remember the most from last night’s World Series clinching win:

“For me, it’s probably (Marco) Scutaro’s 3-1 single to right field to take the lead and then that last called strike three to (Miguel) Cabrera was just as sweet as it was in.”

On the final pitch by Sergio Romo to get Miguel Cabrera out:

“It was four or five and then Romo shook to the fastball and executed the pitch. It’s a gutsy pitch to arguably the best hitter in game.”

What he saw on his home run:

“Well I was just looking for a pitch to drive. Fortunately got a change-up out over the plate and caught it just right to get the backspin necessary to get it out to left. It was good, it was a great moment and I was glad I was able to get the team on top there. I think I heard (Bench Coach Ron) Wotus earlier before I got on say how much of a team effort this whole season was and I think that’s what has made it so special.”

Whether Hunter Pence’s speeches and pregame antics really brought the team closer together:

“I don’t think there’s any question they brought us closer but I don’t think the fact can be overlooked that we’re really good too. We have a great coaching staff and we have talented players. You look around the field and offensively each guy can do damage and our pitching has been well documented and the bullpen was lights out for us so yeah we were a tight-nit group and had some quirky ways of getting fired up but we’re also really good.”
