Congressman Bob Brady Trying To Ban All Sex Product Ads from 6 am to 10 pm

It never ceases to amaze me how politicians get so wrapped up in certain issues and really forget the big picture.  Things like unemployment, the economy, crime, rising healthcare and insurance costs are still major problems in the United States, but congressmen still find the time to ban online poker, work on Spygate, or the most recent glimpse of how their priorities are out of whack…Congressman Bob Brady of Pennsylvania is introducing a bill that will ban all Viagra, Cialis, and male sexual enhancement product adds on TV and radio from 6 am to 10 pm.These ads are obvioulsy very prevalent on TV during games and on sports radio as it covers a major part of their demographics.  It would take a huge chunk of revenue away from the sports industry and deprive us of those amazing “Viva Viagra” commercials and the hilarious  (ok, mortifying) lines at the end of the commercials like “Side effects may include headache, flushing, upset stomach, and abnormal vision. To avoid long term injuries stop taking Viagra and call your doctor right away if you experience a sudden decrease in vision or an erection lasting more than four hours.”Longtime Philadelphia broadcaster Howard Eskin of WIP spoke to Congressman Bob Brady about his bill and really went after him. He made valid points and it was a fascinating segment.

Why is his name is on this bill?

“I’m watching TV with my two granddaughters and it was a little embarrassing and I think it was bad that they asked me, “What is erectile dysfunction?” And I stumble along and they’re too young to understand it and they’re much too young to learn about the birds and the bees yet….If they’re on a show and you don’t want your kids to see a certain show, you don’t put that show on, but you can’t control when the commercials come on. I think that it’s the wrong place, on a Saturday afternoon and a Sunday afternoon, these shows are dominated [by these commercials].”

On taking away business:

“Are you telling me that Major League Baseball and the NFL are going to go out of business if Viagra doesn’t sponsor them? Are you telling me we’re going to take money off those owner’s table? What table?…What table am I taking food off of? They can put in another sponsor and I’m sure they will.”

Aren’t there more important things to worry about right now?

“I’m worried about other things too but we can do more than one thing at a time. It isn’t like Viagra is all I’m worried about. This is another thing that I think will help the family get back together, where you can sit down and watch a TV show or watch a sporting event with your children, with your family on a Sunday afternoon and not have to put up with explaining what a male enhancement is or what is an erectile dysfunction.”
