Mike Mccarthy Green Bay Packers Cedric Benson Graham Harrell

The Green Bay Packers won the Super Bowl two years ago, and they were supposed to win it all last year. Then that Giants playoff game happened and now the Pack are approaching  with a fresh chip on their shoulder. The team is pretty much intact, but Matt Flynn is gone and they’ve brought Cedric Benson in. Mike McCarthy joined the Big Show on WSSP in Milwaukee to discuss new arrival Cedric Benson, new backup quarterback Graham Harrell and the new competition in the secondary now that Charles Woodson has been moved to safety.

On new acquisition Cedric Benson:

“Veteran running back that’s been very productive, had a big year last year, really has the last three years in Cincinnati. I really like his inside running style . … I think he’s a really good fit for us.”

On new backup quarterback Graham Harrell:

“I feel really good about where he is in the progression. He’s gone through this season, last year, where he was here the whole time so he knows the offense. He’s had a chance to develop his particular skill set this past offseason. He’s clearly strong, throwing with more velocity. We’re at the last stage now, he’s playing games. So I want to try to play him as much as I possibly can. … We’re going to play him as much as possible throughout the preseason and make sure he has the reps under his belt.”

On the competition in the secondary with Charles Woodson moving to safety:

“Well I really like our young secondary. I think we’ve got excellent competition both at the third and fourth corner and really all the way through to potentially the fifth corner. And really the safety group is a group that there’s a lot of competition.
